Summary

Black and white silver gelatin photograph taken in the Machine Shop of Building 12 Engineering Workshops. It features a Hytor vacuum pump in a temporary testing set-up during the building construction period, circa 1960-61.

The Hytor vacuum pump supplied suction for the suction roll drives of the coating track located in Emulsion Coating, Building 3. The design for the coating rack was based on a similar machine to one at the Eastman Kodak Rochester, NY, USA plant, and the method of transport and drying of the film or paper web was new to Kodak Australia.

This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.
