Summary
Black and white photograph showing the ammonia compressors for ethylene-glycol brine in the North Annexe of the Machine Hall in the Power House (Building 11) of the Kodak Australasia Pty Ltd Coburg factory complex during the construction phase in mid to late 1960.
This view features three electric motor-driven high speed multi-cylinder reciprocating ammonia compressors (ammonia being the refrigerant) already installed and operational. Each compressor had its own condenser and brine shell, as well as tube heat exchangers located out of picture to the left. Additionally, each had its own condenser cooling tower mounted on the annexe roof immediately above each unit. The make-up tank was located along the north wall of the brine area in the North Annexe.
This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.
