Janet Scrimgeour migrated to Australia from Scotland with family in 1854. In 1865 Janet married Danish migrant Peter Franz Brackelmann in Bendigo. For the wedding Janet wore the Limerick lace wedding veil, which was imported from Ireland for the wedding. The veil was passed down through the one female line and worn by over 100 women over five generations.
