Summary

Split cane spear exhibited at the 1880 Melbourne International Exhibition. Many functional and ornamental native weapons were displayed in the various colonial settlement courts. It is noted in the Official Record of the Melbourne International Exhibition that British colonies such as the Straits Settlements, were represented by 'a fine array of weapons used by the Malays and by natives of Borneo, Java, Sumatra, and the Eastern Archipelago' (cxxxvi); and similar displays were seen in the Fiji and Cape Colony courts.

Arrow made from split cane/ bamboo. Some marked with tattoos, others twined together.
