Summary
Seto ware tile featuring delicately painted swallows flying over fruit trees within an elaborately gilded border of dragons. Produced by Kato Kanshiro, and signed as having been painted by Gazan, in Japan during the late Edo (1600-1867) or Meiji period (1868-1880).
Physical Description
Large glazed tile, painted with a bird in flight and another on the branch of a fruiting plum tree. Gilded, relief moulded decoration at centre of each edge. A panel of intricately painted dragon and cloud motifs in gold on black around border.
