Buildings featured in this image, from left to right: Building 5, Sheet Film; Building 4, Roll Film; the high rise sections of Buildings 3, Emulsion Coating, and 2, Emulsion Making, in the background; Building 7, Testing, Electricity Sub-station number 2 and the east wing of Building 2 are in the foreground, along with the gantry system wending its way around the road network to the various buildings. East Coburg residences, parkland and Pentridge Goal are visible in the far distance. The vacant block in front of the temporary wall of the east wing of Building 2 was later occupied by the Silver Nitrate making plant. The two electricity poles in the foreground carried the Coburg City Council high/low voltage power lines which followed the east/west aligned Bigg's Road.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as, film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.

This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005 after the manufacturing plant at Coburg had closed down the year before.

Description of Content

In the foreground of the image is steel framework structure with pipes running alongside a vacant block of land. Two electricity poles stand either side of the pipe structure. In the mid-ground to the right is a low-rise hanger style building. Behind this is a multi-storey brick building. To the left, mid-ground, the pipes mounted on the framework run from left to right across the print, over a single-storey building and then feed into a multi-storey building. In the distance to the left, suburban housing is visible.
