Summary

Black and white silver gelatin photograph, view north-west from Bigg's Road of Building 13, Paper Finishing, Kodak factory, Coburg, circa 1961.

This streetscape, taken from the T-intersection of Bigg's Road, features the east face of Building 13 with a row of windows and entrance to the administration offices in the foreground and a loading dock at the far north end which was used mainly for the outgoing finished product. The shadow of the Power House services gantry which followed the north side of Bigg's Road can be seen in the foreground.

Emulsion coated master rolls from either the coating department or from overseas containers, were delivered to and stored in the basement. The master rolls were lifted to the main floor when required where they were slit and chopped into sheet or customer roll size product. They were then packed into the familiar yellow boxes ready for despatch to the distribution centre.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as, film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.

This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005 after the manufacturing plant at Coburg had closed down the year before.
