Summary

Black and white silver gelatin photograph of south-west view of construction site, taken from the cooling tower of Building 11, Power House, Kodak factory, Coburg, June1958.

In this view, the entire active building site can be seen, apart from the Power House. From the left, Building 7, Testing, with its two-storey centrepiece and east facing facade, along with the Electricity Sub-station number 2 at its east end, appears to be completed externally. Only the roofs of single-storey Building 5, Sheet Film, and Building 4, Roll Film, are visible at the rear. In the right foreground, the multi-storey section of Building 2, Emulsion Making, has reached the first floor level, with columns up to the second level, and the steel framework and aluminium roof appear to have been completed for the single-storey east and west wings. In the centre, the multi-storey east end of Building 3, Emulsion Coating, has reached the second floor level, while the steel framework and aluminium roof appear to have been completed for the single-storey west end.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as, film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.

This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005 after the manufacturing plant at Coburg had closed down the year before.
