Summary

Black and white silver gelatin photograph of interior of lunch room in Building 5, Sheet Film, Kodak factory, Coburg, June 1958.

The staff lunch room area features a solid plaster ceiling finished with fire sprinklers, fluorescent lighting and air conditioning ducts. The pre-fabricated full height partition walls have been sealed and painted. The concrete floor has been covered with vinyl tiles. The room is ready for the furniture (tables and chairs) and drink making facilities to be installed. Being adjacent to clean production areas (some of them in safelight conditions), this fairly basic style allowed for easy cleaning and control of lighting levels.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as, film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.

This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005 after the manufacturing plant at Coburg had closed down the year before.
