Summary

Black and white photograph featuring a partially constructed air conditioning unit installed during the Kodak Australasia Pty Ltd Coburg building construction period 1958-1960.

All sensitised products handled in manufacturing operations required environmental air conditions such as temperature and humidity to be controlled within narrow tolerances (ideally 21ºC, 50%RH) and to be clean from dust and contaminants that could de-sensitise the coated emulsion. Air conditioning units like this, when completed, were fitted out with removable paper type filters which were able to be serviced or replaced via access panels on the side of the enclosed unit. This facilitated clean, controlled conditions in the factory. Units also contained a chilled water cooling radiator, a steam heating radiator and louvre dampers all within a sealed metal framework.

This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.
