Summary

Black and white photograph of the shop front window display in Kodak Australasia Limited's retail store on Queen Street, Brisbane, circa 1914 - 1918.

The display is focused on seasonal change, with a spinning wheel at the back with the four seasons on it. Spring and Summer are visible. This wheel is edged with Kodak cameras and above that is a sign reading 'Kodaks are used all over the world in all seasons', but beyond this the display lacks a specific product focus. The display is crammed with all types of camera and film, arranged in decorative patterns, but there is a large sign in the centre of display reading: 'All the Seasons of the year go by and leave nothing behind. There is no way to keep a permanent record of your happy moments so satisfactorily as with an Autographic Kodak'. There are different domestic holiday pictures around the display, plus illustrated posters and a floral wallpaper backdrop. In addition to these there are two photographs relating to military activity, indicating this was taken during World War I. One features a presentation of military decoration and the other the SS Ormond.

This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers, as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.
