Summary

Black and white photograph of the shop front window display in Kodak Australasia Limited's retail store on Queen Street, Brisbane, circa 1920.

The display is themed around sailing races at Hamilton Reach on the Brisbane River. It was put together prior to Christmas, as one poster features an animated Santa Clause alongside the text: 'To-morrow, take your Kodak to the Sailing [...] Hamilton'. Flags are hung as a backdrop, with a large poster caption stating this is the first test race to decide who will represent Queensland in the Australian Championships. Kodak cameras and film are arranged on the floor and on plinths throughout the display, alongside pictures of yachts, and a small model yacht mounted on the left of the display.

This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers, as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.
