Significance

This collection of objects represents the devastation inflicted on the property and livelihood of many Victorians by the Black Saturday bushfires, which occurred on 7th February, 2009. These items come from Remlaw, near Horsham and directly from the property where the Remlaw bushfire started, and indicate the extreme heat that was experienced on the day.

Much of the media representation focused on the catastrophic impact of the fires on Kinglake and Marysville areas, where deaths were recorded. The Remlaw fire was not well recorded in wider media.
