Summary

Monochrome photograph of the Kodak Australasia Limited branch store at 346 Argent Street, Broken Hill, 1912. This exterior street view shows a large sign promoting Kodak but also their association with the Baker & Rouse brand. An Austral decal decorates the window, inside of which is a display of photo frames. The neighbouring business, 'Bijou Squash Bar' is just visible to the right. The Broken Hill Kodak store was actually managed by the South Australian branch head in Adelaide because of its closer proximity to that region, rather than Sydney Head Office.

This image is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers, as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.
