Summary

Colour photograph of customers gathered in front of the retail shop window displays in a Kodak building, circa 1950s. Inside, a Kodak employee is manning the service counter.

There are four distinct window display areas, all dressed differently. This is a new window display arrangement, where the one large display window and side entrance has been reconfigured to smaller, discreet displays and a more inviting entrance. The stoop has been redecorated with a sunray pattern and there is a neon sign. However, the awning plasterwork is still the same as earlier photographs taken of this shop front from the 1920s.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers, as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.

This print is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.
