Summary
The Sentinel Log Saw was an Australian-made mechanical drag-saw or cross-cut saw which came with it's own 3 horsepower vertical petrol engine. It featured an efficient governor ('so it can never race'), Bosch magneto and gear-driven patent saw attachment with safety clutch. It cost £76/-/- and came with tools and spares, including one spark plug, oil can, funnel, and spanners for 3/8ths and 7/16ths inch nuts.
Output was quoted at 16 tons of two-foot wood in 8 hours, on less than 1 gallon of petrol, with an average output down to about 14 tons per hour.
It was primarily used for firewood cutting in rural districts and sometimes for breaking down of felled trees into lengths suitable for sawlogs, fence posts and sleeper or paling spitting in the bush. The Sentinel log saw was on the market frrom the mid-1920s until around the mid-1930s or later.
