Describes features of the Bass Strait passenger and freight ferry services provided by the Australian National Line between the mainland and Tasmanian using the vessels MV Princess of Tasmania, MV Bass Trader and MV South Esk under the 'SEAROAD' branding.
SEAROAD SERVICE
The new passenger and car ferry "Princess of Tasmania" inaugurated the "Searoad Service" between Victoria and Tasmania on 2nd October 1959, and was joined just over a year later by the roll-on/roll-off passenger & cargo ferry "Bass Trader".
The "Princess of Tasmania" was operated passenger & freight ferry services for the ANL between September 1959 and December 1972. The "South Esk" was operated by ANL as a general freight vessel from 1959 to December 1972, and the "Bass Trader" as a Roll-On/Roll-Off passenger & freight ferry between 1961 and April 1975.
