Summary
Traditionally conical baskets in Arnhem Land were made from pandanus or sedge depending on their use. The bathi mindirr is one that is classically closer in its weave and can be painted, and is used by men for carrying belongings.
Physical Description
A twined conical basket made from pandanus. It has a close weave and the outside is painted with natural pigments. The multistrand vegetable fibre string handle is attached to the rim at the back and the rim is stitched with this string using a blanket stitch.
