Fundraising badge from World War I.
This badge was produced in 1916 to raise funds for the Victorian Education Department Patriotic Fund. This particular example shows a French flag and Joseph Joffre, the French Commander-in-Chief in the early stages of the war, and appears to have been part of a fundraising campaign to support the French Army. The Victorian Education Department Patriotic Fund raised a total of £390,337 during the war.
Physical Description
Round metal badge in red, white, blue and gold. Image of a moustached man in a military officer hat in profile in front of the French flag. Blue words printed around the border and on lower outer rim. Metal pin in back fits in slot. Some rust on obverse.
