Fundraising badge dating from World War I.
This particular example was made in Victoria and was distributed on the 24th of March 1916, the day set aside as 'Button Day For Our Fighting Men' to raise funds for the servicemen fighting overseas. The day was initiated by the Lady Mayoress of Melbourne eighteen months prior and raised £73 on the day. Other examples of buttons with a similar slogan also exist and were possibly distributed on the same date in subsequent years.
Physical Description
Round metal badge in red, white and blue. Light blue border is made to look like a belt. Red centre with an Australian flag in it. Pin at back fits into slot.
