Fundraising badge for the Italian Red Cross (Croce Rossa Italiana) from World War I.
The Italian Red Cross were formed in 1864 and was officially recognised in 1886. The Italian Red Cross worked throughout the war to support sick and wounded Italian servicemen.
Badges like these were designed for fundraising purposes during the war. This particular example is believed to have originated in Victoria, but been sold nationwide.
Physical Description
Round metal badge with gold border and centre with red, green and white stripes of the Italian flag. Coronet over shield with a white cross over a white banner with words printed in red. Under this is a gold orb with a red cross in it and white banners either side with words in red printed in them. Pin at back that fits into slot. Spot of rust on back.
