The pamphlet describes what to do in the event of an air raid, lighting restrictions and has advice and illustrations regarding the construction of air raid shelters.

It was published by the State Emergency Council for Civil Defence Victoria by Authority of the Government of Victoria in April 1941. Printed by H.E. Daw, Melbourne.

Physical Description

The pamphlet contains 37 pages, including fold out pages with illustrations of air raid shelters, printed in black ink, centrally bound with two staples. The cover is olive green with some light brown colouring. A coat of arms is shown on the cover page with two women standing alongside a shield with five stars on it. A kangaroo is emerging from the top of the shield, holding an unknown object. There is a banner under the coat of arms with text. A hole is punched in the top and a piece of brown twine is knotted through it. The first page contains handwriting in pencil. Corrections and modifications have been made to the information inside the front cover. Loose sheets of paper were pinned to the inside of the back cover: a shopping list, a poem (cut from a newspaper) called 'War Gases' written by an A.R.P. in Sydney about how to identify gas types, a typed transcription of the poem, and a newspaper clipping of a shelter. These items have been registered separately.
