Recipe book, titled 'Handy Hints On Cooking,' prepared by the State Electricity Commission Briquette Advisory Service, Melbourne, in about the 1960s.

The 38 page book notes on the frontispiece that it was 'your guide to better cooking', and that 'We are confident that this booklet will help you prepare a host of mouth-watering dishes.' The book was promoted to the housewife, and was intended to 'assist the housewife and home-maker to obtain the greatest efficiency and economy in the use of her fuel or slow-combination cooking range, and to help generally in caring for, cleaning and operating her cooker'.

The book includes lists of kitchen utensils, weights and measures, meat selection tables, an index of cooking terms and definitions, cooking guides, cleaning instructions, remedies for cooking failures, basic food groups, recipes and an introduction to cooking with briquettes.

Physical Description

38 page printed booklet with metal spiral binding. The contents are printed in black text on white pages, but the front and back covers are colour printed in 1960s shades of blue, orange, black and white.
