This image shows the Australian Light Horse Brigade swimming their horses across the Nile River. According to one of the photograph inscriptions within the album (MM 107505) 150 horses could cross the water in 30 minutes. Crossing the horses was a part of the training undertaken in Egypt in order for the men to have experience with crossing rivers.
Description of Content
Image depicting a line of horses swimming across a body of water. To the right of the line of horses there are some men in a row boat. On the far bank there is a goupr of servicemen, who appear to be waiting to lead the horses ashore. In the lower right corner of image, on the bank the photograph was taken from, another group of servicemen and horses stand all facing away from the camera, towards the water.
