Physical Description
An apron made of string heavily coated with red ochre.
Significance
Objects made of fragile materials are lucky to survive the rigours of time, and this is only one of six aprons from Aboriginal Victoria in the museum's collection. However this is the only known example of one made with string as the others are made with emu feathers. The aprons were usually worn by women, and although this one is likely to have been an item of everyday use, it is stunning for the beauty of its simple form and rich colouring.
