Significance

The BAC/Aerospatiale Concorde supersonic airliner was one of the most significant technological developments of the twentieth century. It engendered both support and fierce environmental opposition. It was intended that Concorde flights from Australia to Europe should begin in about 1977 but no regular passenger flights were ever operated.
