It is one of a group of photographs probably taken by American folklorist Dr Dorothy Howard while she was studying children's games and playlore in Australia under a Fulbright research grant,1954-1955. Her photographs and research have become part of the Australian Children's Folklore Collection at Museum Victoria - part of the UNESCO Australian Memory of the World Register.
Description of Content
Shows nine boys playing 'Bob Down Tiggy' in a Government school play- ground, Melbourne. The boys are in a rough circle, with three boys bobbing down, others half-crouching or standing. The playground has a sealed surface and is marked with crosses. There are also lines and large dots marked. An expanse of playground with trees and seating is visible in the background. Most of the boys are wearing shorts and short-sleeved shirts.
