It is one of a group of photographs probably taken by American folklorist Dr Dorothy Howard while she was studying children's games and playlore in Australia under a Fulbright research grant,1954-1955. Her photographs and research have become part of the Australian Children's Folklore Collection at Museum Victoria - part of the UNESCO Australian Memory of the World Register.
Description of Content
Photo shows eight young boys playing cricket on a flat, unsealed surface, probably a school ground. There is a paling fence in the background, and behind this a brick building. The boys are using wickets which have a wooden base and stand on the ground. All of the boys are wearing shorts and jumpers, with lace up shoes and socks.
