Summary
This ink well was excavated at the Commonwealth Block site between 1988 and 2003. This type of inkwell is also known as a penny ink well.
Writing implements, found throughout Little Lon, indicate that writing was a commonplace activity. The pens, pencils and inkwells are a tantalizing reminder of words forgotten long ago.

This is a salt-glazed, ceramic ink well. It has a short neck and a round squat body.
