Summary
Black and white photograph shows a girl (name unknown) holding a ceremonial candle at a Greek Orthodox christening. Although the name of this girl is unknown, this photograph was probably taken at Pinilopi Papageorgiou's christening in about 1968 at St Catherine's Greek Orthodox Church, Carlton. The church no longer exists.
According to the family, 'the children would stand around the kolimbithra (font) with the ceremonial candles. The following week, when the family goes to church with the baby, for holy communion, the candle is donated to the church. The child will receive communion for the second time. The family are supposed to go to receive communion three weeks in a row.'
