Description of Content
Two women with violin and banjo sitting in front of a piano. This photograph shows Ruby Van Ede with a violin and Claire Mylius with a banjo in Caulfield South, 1946. The neighbours would gather at Mrs Jackson's house to play music in the evenings. Although only two women are pictured here with instruments, up to 30 people would come along and join in. Some of these people were from a band which played at the Palais Dance Hall and would join in the music session after finishing at the dances. Sometimes the playing would continue into the night and early morning.
