Description of Content

Four men in entertaining pose, with musical instruments in a backyard. There is a humorous program of performances poster. Instruments are a euphonium, a stick and a dish, a clarinet and a piccolo. This photograph shows Stanley Fletcher's friends and family as 'The Calithumpian Band', circa 1913. The group was probably Fred (surname unknown) on a euphonium or baritone horn, Dick Fletcher with a stick and a dish, Stanley Fletcher with a pillow slip on his head playing a clarinet, and James in a sun hat playing a piccolo. Stanley had a wicked sense of humour and his daughter guesses that the rest of his family did too. Stanley played the clarinet, and it's likely that the rest could play their instruments too. Stan probably set up the camera himself, but may have gotten a friend from Power Studio to help. This series of four photographs, MM110333, MM110334, MM110335 and MM110336 were probably taken in the family backyard in Brunswick. The sign about ducklings and chooks is probably a joke on the fact that the family kept hens.
