Roving street performer outside the Melbourne Arts Centre, dressed in pink orange and blue costume and with a painted face. This photograph shows a street performer in the 1993 Melbourne Arts Festival. When the festival was on, the photographer, Liza Dale-Hallet, would go down at lunch time to see what was on. She remembers 'It was the place to be.' This was a time when street entertainment was very much part of the character of the festival. 'It didn't matter if you didn't have any money, you could still see fantastic shows and performers. You just had to be there. The streets around the Arts Centre were decked out with lights and street performers were everywhere. She says 'It was very much a public festival at that time.'
