Woman in dark sunglasses and checked coat holding placard saying 'Consensus not Conflict', amongst crowd in street demonstration. This photograph shows a street demonstration against the Kennett State Victorian Government, circa 1992. The march was about rights for workers, threats to funding and ongoing employment for public servants, council amalgamations, and school closures. The photographer, Liza Dale-Hallet, remembers it as 'A general protest against the strategies and decisions of the State Liberal government at the time, which were seen as aggressive, unnecessary and 'rude' by many people. This march was very early. The laws were changed by the State Government to make demonstrations of this kind more difficult. People became exhausted and overwhelmed. These were the largest demonstrations to be held in Melbourne since the Vietnam War Moratorium- over 100,000 people marched.'
