Description of Content
Family group sitting under beach umbrella in front of a tent. There is a car to the left hand side. This photograph shows the Sheldon family and Gloria Lancaster, Arthur Sheldon's fiancee, camping at Mornington, 1954. Gloria remembers that this was not a special camping ground, just 'a spot under the trees a bit inland away from the beach'. The family usually went away for Christmas, sometimes Port Fairy, sometimes Mornington and other places. Arthur's sister and brother in law, the Condicks, had a large trailer that they used to transport most of the camping gear. Three people slept in a tent. Gloria slept in the Vauxhall family car in a collapsible back seat. 'Grandma' Sheldon cooked over an open wooden fire.
