Description of Content

Woman in swimming costume, sitting on towel, next to portable radio on the beach. There are bathing boxes and a boy behind her. This photograph shows Gloria Sheldon and her radio at the beach, 1953. Gloria's mother was furious that she bought this radio, because it was so expensive. It was a battery and power point combination, and Gloria remembers that was 'almost unheard of'. She liked to listen to pop music on it, and usually took it to the beach. It was 'the thing to have'. The photograph was taken at Mornington, and the bathing boxes behind her don't exist now.
