This photograph shows James Phillips and his wife Mary with their grand daughter Amelia and the family dog outside their family home in Victoria Road, Auburn (also known as Hawthorn which was the main suburb that Auburn falls within), 1894. This house represented the culmination of all their hard work since arriving in Australia, in 1857. James died later that year, aged 65.
