Woman dressed for party, carrying infant son. Her two older boys stand next to them, in front of a Christmas tree. The children are all wearing party hats. This photograph shows Melva Nowell with her sons Glen, David and Martin, in front of a Christmas tree, at the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation Christmas party, December 1955. Both Melva and Jack worked at the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation, a private concern, (as apposed to the Commonwealth Aircraft Factory next door, which was government) at Fisherman's Bend. They had sandwiches and cakes with Santa Claus giving a present to all the children. David is holding his present, a small laser gun. The children were also given a party hat each. Both Melva and Jack were members of the company social club called 'The Wirraway Club', named after the plane 'The Wirraway' which was the model made by the company at the Fisherman's Bend plant during World War II. Jack spent many years at the factory and compiled records from 1937 - 1960 of all personal and aircraft made, which eventually was passed onto Melbourne University archive.
