Three men chopping large logs in an arena, with crowds watching. This photograph shows the wood chopping competition at the Royal Melbourne Show, Ascot Vale, September 1956. The photographer David Meale had been brought up in the country and only recently moved to Melbourne. He had never been to a city show so went to see what it was like.
