Foy & Gibson Department Store, decorated with flags and Olympic symbol for 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. This photograph shows Foys Department Store, decorated for the 1956 Olympics, on the corner of Bourke and Swanston streets. The photographer David Meale had been brought up in the country and only recently moved to Melbourne. He remembers 'Lots of the shops in the city were decorated to celebrate the Games. You could walk through the city just to see them.' It also shows the beginning of the construction 'of a seven storey Santa Claus that Foys used to build every year for the Christmas season.'
