Description of Content
A view of the Yarra River, with a group of people standing around a car with a speed boat on a trailer parked on the river bank. On the opposite side, in Richmond, factories and warehouses are visible. A boat is on the river. This photograph shows the Yarra River from South Yarra, at the bottom of Darling Street, looking over at Richmond, in 1952. This was before the Eastern Freeway was constructed. A tour boat is visible on the Yarra. The photographer, David Meale, took the photograph from the hill above. The people, car and boat are unknown to him. He remembers it was 'a very fancy American convertible and boat, quite unusual for the time.' The photographer was on holidays with his aunt and uncle who lived in Darling Street.
