A rectangular concrete slab on top of brick foundations, on a house building site. This photograph shows the slab for the garage roof, at Brian and Vera Watson's new house, Greensborough, circa 1958. Brian Watson remembers: 'The slab for the garage formed the lounge room floor. This had to be continuously poured in the one day or else it would have dried out. They had to do it all by wheel barrow.' The site where the cement and other materials were delivered was quite a distance from the actual building site. The cement had to be transported down the hill one wheel barrow at a time. This is part of a series of 18 images contributed by Brian and Vera Watson, showing the construction of their house in about 1958 - 1959 in Greensborough. Brian and Vera worked on the site with friends and family on the weekends, during their engagement. There was a shortage of materials such as bricks, and of labour. Brian was lucky to have a friend who was a builder, Albie Birrell, who gave him advice and help. Vera and Brian would bring a camera and take photographs at each significant stage.
