A bull-dozer shifting the earth from the driveway into the terrace at the front a new house. This photograph shows a bulldozer working on the building site of Brian and Vera's first home, Greensborough, circa 1959. The bulldozer was shifting the earth from the driveway into the terrace at the front of the house. Brian remembers: 'The slope of earth by the bulldozer later formed steps. The brick retaining wall was hollow and needed to be filled with earth before it had a concrete slab poured on top of it.' This is part of a series of 18 images contributed by Brian and Vera Watson, showing the construction of their house over 1958 and 1959 in Greensborough. Brian and Vera worked on the site with friends and family on the weekends, during their engagement. There was a shortage of materials such as bricks, and of labour. Brian was lucky to have a friend who was a builder, Albie Birrell, who gave him advice and help. Vera and Brian would bring a camera and take photographs at each significant stage.
