Description of Content

A man sitting inside an Austin car, in a driveway. There are standard roses in garden bed in foreground. This photograph shows Bill Piggott and his 'new' second hand Austin car in the driveway of his family home, Pasco Vale, circa 1956. Behind Bill is the Bell Street Exit Hill which is now covered in houses. At the time the family remembers 'there were only two houses.' The family home is no longer standing, as it was compulsorily acquired for the Bell Street Exit of the Tullamarine Freeway. The family were very shocked to be losing their home. Elsie and William Piggott had come to the area from Port Fairy during the Depression and spent their lives building this security. When the house was acquired they were not given enough money to buy another home and had to borrow money from their daughter Rita to buy another home.
