Description of Content

A girl in school uniform standing outside front porch of home. The uniform is a skirt and blazer. This photograph shows Rita Piggott on her first day at school, in the front garden of her family home in Pascoe Vale, circa 1937. She was preparing to walk to Pascoe Vale State School. The photo was taken by her father, William (Bill) Piggot, grandfather of the donor. The house is no longer standing, as it was compulsorily acquired for the Bell Street Exit of the Tullamarine Freeway. The family were very shocked to be losing their home. Elsie and William (Bill) Piggott had come to the area from Port Fairy during the Depression and spent their lives building this security. When the house was acquired they were not given enough money to buy another home and had to borrow money from their daughter Rita to buy another home.
