Description of Content

A woman standing at viewing platform, with a TAA Vickers Viscount plane behind her on the tarmac. She is holding a bunch of flowers. This photograph shows Maria Schlesinger before she departed to travel overseas on business in 1966. She was at Essendon Airport, 'in the days when you walked out on the tarmac.' Maria and her mother owned a dress shop in Kew, called 'Paulette Modes', and she was going overseas to look at new fashions and buy new stock. Her daughter Judy Schlesinger, who took the photograph, came with her to the airport to 'farewell' her mother. Judy says the photograph was probably taken with her old Box Brownie camera.
