Summary
Digital Photograph depicting Elias and Rachel Baitz servicing the family car, in the garage/workshop of their home in Essendon, 1922-1923. The car was a Ford Cleveland, early 1920s, registration no. 2502, and had Michelin tyres. The garage was built out of the packing case that the car was delivered in.
Elias and Rachel Baitz immigrated to Australia from Russia via Africa with their two sons, Alexander and Sam, and Rachel's sister's family the Grosovsky's (Grosby) in 1915. Elias initially went into business with his brother-in-law Moses Grosovsky (Grosby) before the partnership dissolved in 1926. Elias and Rachel had two more children, Paul and Rosa, once they had settled in Australia.
