A procession of children and adults, with some wearing costumes and others carrying hand-made puppets on poles. This photograph shows a procession for the Puppet Festival, Caulfield Community Day, 1979. The photographer Russell Beedles was a member of CARGO, the Community Arts Resource Group. They put forward a proposal to have a puppet festival as part of the Community Day. Russell was teaching at Hawthorn Institute of Education and involved some of the art students who were doing their Graduate Diploma in education. The Community Day celebrated the International Year of the Child. The puppets were made by primary schools in the Caulfield area, with CARGO's assistance.
