Description of Content
Families sitting at tables in a cafe, with barrels for chairs. This photograph shows Klaus-Peter Saifert, his new wife Helen and family at the opening of their coffee lounge, The Coffee Barrel, Gardenvale, 1965. Helen remembers 'When Klaus migrated to Australia he was a pastry cook and baker. He decided to open a coffee lounge in Martin Street, Gardenvale.' Klaus made the chairs out of old beer barrels from the brewery (when the brewery changed to metal barrels) and Helen made the tablecloths and cushions.
