Description of Content
Boy running past shop windows on the foot-path, with woman and girl walking behind him. This photograph shows a boy running in front of a row of shops, with Doris and Joan Atkinson walking behind, Moonee Ponds, 1949. After emigrating from England the Atkinson family bought a milk bar in Moonee Ponds, after only six weeks in the country. The Atkinson family's mother and father had given them some start-up money, 1000 pounds to buy a business. Unfortunately the young couple struggled and eventually bowed out of the business having learnt a hard lesson. They ended up moving to Gippsland when Cliff Atkinson found employment with the Gas & Fuel Corporation. These were the local shops around the corner from the Atkinson's family milk bar.
